⚡ Kenya – Seven Forks Solar Extension Feasibility Study (100 MW)
Client: KenGen (Kenya Electricity Generating Company) | Period: May 2026 – April 2027 | Location: Kenya
Leading the complete feasibility study for a 100 MW solar PV extension near the existing Seven Forks complex:
- Evaluating BESS integration options for grid stability and renewable energy optimization (sizing, technology selection, dispatch strategy)
- Performing grid interconnection study — load flow, short circuit, and transient stability analysis using PSS/E-compatible software
- Developing conceptual plant design and technical specifications: single-line diagrams, major equipment lists, instrumentation and control
- Building LCOE, IRR, NPV, and DSCR financial models with sensitivity analysis; preparing EPC cost estimates and Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA)
- Analysing proposed tariff structure and Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) revenue potential
- Developing Solar PV Master Plan for the Seven Forks Complex (~28,375 acres)
- Managing stakeholder engagement with EPRA, KPLC, Ministry of Energy, and international financiers (AFD, KfW, AfDB, World Bank)
- Delivering capacity-building workshops and two-day training sessions for ~30 KenGen staff

🇵🇰 Pakistan – AMI Technical Consultant (16.2 Million Meters, 5 DISCOs)
Client: IFC / World Bank | PPIB | DISCOs: LESCO, MEPCO, PESCO, QESCO, HAZECO | Period: May 2026 – March 2027
Leading IFC/World Bank advisory for the largest AMI rollout in Pakistan under a Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (BFOT) concession model:
- Designing vendor-agnostic HES/MDMS architecture ensuring interoperability with CIS, SCADA, OMS, and GIS across five DISCOs, building on prior AMI specifications for IESCO and LESCO (ADB TA-9756-PAK)
- Directing telecommunications feasibility assessment across G3-PLC, RF Mesh, and Cellular technologies; harmonising single-phase meter technical specifications
- Overseeing cybersecurity assessment: DLMS/COSEM protocol compliance, NIST/ISO benchmarking, firmware vulnerability review, and data governance gap analysis
- Leading AT&C loss diagnostics and modelling per DISCO, linking AMI deployment to measurable revenue recovery and circular debt reduction
- Leading preparation of RFP technical inputs including vendor-agnostic performance obligations and technical bid evaluation criteria for the concession tender
- Directing elaboration of PPP transaction concepts per DISCO: geographic perimeter, loss objectives, risk factors, and private-sector appetite screening
- Managing multidisciplinary team of 10+ international and local experts (AMI engineering, regulatory, cybersecurity, E&S, telecoms, transaction law)

🇰🇪 Kenya – Power System Loss Reduction Study
Client: Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC), World Bank | Period: 2024 – 2025
Leading comprehensive study targeting reduction of distribution losses from 23% (3,069 GWh) to 18% by FY2028:
- Developed and validated comprehensive DIgSILENT PowerFactory models for KPLC’s distribution network
- Converted Kenya Transmission System from PSS/E to DIgSILENT PowerFactory; performed transmission-level loss root-cause analysis
- Analysed 11 kV, 33 kV, and 66 kV MV feeders — impedance data, transformer ratings, and loss contributions
- Performed feeder-level load flow analysis to identify thermal overloading and voltage regulation issues under various demand scenarios
- Conducted energy balance analysis at feeder level and developed loss reduction strategies considering financial, technical, and operational constraints
- Designed network reconfiguration strategies to balance feeder loading and reduce losses
- Developed infrastructure upgrade recommendations: reconductoring and transformer replacement
- Delivered hands-on training workshops to KPLC engineers on PowerFactory modelling and loss analysis methodologies (August 2025)

🇹🇯 Tajikistan – Energy Loss Reduction Project (Task 10)
Client: STB Tajikistan, World Bank | Period: 2023 – 2025
Leading Task 10 of a four-year comprehensive loss reduction plan focused on overloaded MV/LV transformer identification and network optimisation:
- Performed detailed PowerFactory modelling of MV distribution networks capturing topology, conductor types, and transformer specifications
- Modelled LV distribution systems emanating from MV/LV substations for complete feeder characterisation
- Regional analysis identifying major contributors to distribution system losses
- Prepared tender specifications with technical justification for recommended interventions
- Conducted return-on-investment analysis demonstrating economic benefits of proposed mitigation measures
- Regular coordination with World Bank project management through virtual presentations

🇪🇺 EU Horizon 2020 Projects (2015 – 2020)
INTERPLAN – Integrated Operation Planning Tool (2017 – 2020)
Consortium: ENEA Italy (Coordinator), DERlab Germany, University of Cyprus, Fraunhofer IEE Germany, IEn Poland
- Developed PowerFactory models with “clustered” equivalents of pan-European transmission and distribution networks
- Implemented stochastic methods for frequency and voltage stability assessment under high renewable penetration
- Designed Python-based automated scenario generation tools interfacing with PowerFactory API across hundreds of operating conditions
- Evaluated synthetic inertia and fast frequency response requirements for low-inertia grids
- Validated PowerFactory RMS model behaviour using PSCAD EMT simulations
- Collaborated across six European countries; delivered regular reports to European Commission reviewers
DeCAS – Demonstration of Coordinated Ancillary Services (2015 – 2019)
Consortium: Salzburg Netz GmbH, Siemens AG Austria, TU Wien, RWTH Aachen, Hochschule Kempten, ABB Finland
- Prepared detailed PowerFactory network equivalents for Austrian DSOs (Salzburg Netz, Netz Oberösterreich) spanning LV through HV
- Implemented and tested sensitivity-based coordinated Volt-VAR control algorithms within PowerFactory
- Developed synthetic load and generation profiles from real DSO measurement data for realistic scenario testing
- Collaborated with Austrian DSOs to validate simulations against field measurements
- Published in Electric Power Systems Research (Elsevier)
LEAFS – LV Loads and Storage Integration (2015 – 2018)
Consortium: Fronius International, Siemens Austria, Salzburg Netz, Netz Oberösterreich, MOOSMOAR Energies
- Conducted PowerFactory-based hosting capacity analysis of four Austrian smart grid demonstration sites
- Designed energy storage control strategies to mitigate voltage rise from residential PV systems
- Evaluated Volt-VAR capabilities of residential inverters for voltage regulation support
- Implemented quasi-dynamic simulations with time-series load and PV generation profiles
- Contributed to Austrian grid code provisions for inverter Volt-VAR capabilities and storage dispatch
Erigeneia – Smart Energy Management Systems (2018 – 2020)

- Developed Python-based energy management algorithms optimising battery-PV system operation for local renewable utilisation and grid support

BatterieStable – Synthetic Inertia from Battery Storage (2016 – 2018)
Client: Netz Niederösterreich GmbH
- Analysed impact of large-scale inverter-based generation on grid frequency stability
- Performed small signal stability analysis using PowerFactory for battery-based synthetic inertia under various disturbance scenarios
- Analysed interaction between frequency measurement systems, PLL dynamics, and virtual inertia control
- Conducted PSCAD EMT simulations to validate PowerFactory RMS model behaviour
- Published peer-reviewed research in Energies on small signal stability under virtual inertia provision
