Current Consulting Projects (2025–2027)
Currently leading the following international projects as Senior Consultant at MRC Consultants & Transaction Advisers, Seureca Veolia.
1. Kenya Solar PV Feasibility Study – Seven Forks Extension (100 MW)
Client: KenGen (Kenya Electricity Generating Company) Period: May 2026 – April 2027 Location: Kenya
Leading feasibility study for a 100 MW solar PV extension near the existing Seven Forks complex. Key activities include:
- Evaluating BESS integration options for grid stability and renewable energy optimization
- Performing grid interconnection study (load flow, short circuit, transient stability analysis)
- Developing conceptual plant design, single-line diagrams, and technical specifications
- Building LCOE, IRR, NPV, and DSCR financial models; preparing EPC cost estimates and Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA)
- Developing Solar PV Master Plan for the Seven Forks Complex (~28,375 acres)
- Managing stakeholder engagement with EPRA, KPLC, Ministry of Energy, and international financiers (AFD, KfW, AfDB, World Bank)
- Delivering capacity-building workshops for ~30 KenGen staff
2. Pakistan AMI Meters – Technical Consultant (16.2 Million Meters, 5 DISCOs)
Client: IFC / World Bank | PPIB – LESCO, MEPCO, PESCO, QESCO, HAZECO Period: May 2026 – March 2027 Location: Pakistan
Leading IFC/World Bank advisory for AMI rollout across five Pakistani distribution companies under a Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (BFOT) concession model. Key activities include:
- Designing vendor-agnostic HES/MDMS architecture ensuring interoperability with existing CIS, SCADA, OMS, and GIS
- Directing telecommunications feasibility assessment (G3-PLC, RF Mesh, Cellular)
- Overseeing cybersecurity assessment including DLMS/COSEM compliance, NIST/ISO benchmarking, and data governance gap analysis
- Leading AT&C loss diagnostics and modelling, quantifying technical and non-technical losses per DISCO
- Leading preparation of RFP technical inputs and technical bid evaluation criteria for the concession tender
- Managing multidisciplinary team of 10+ international and local experts
3. Kenya Power System Loss Reduction Study
Client: Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC), World Bank Period: 2024 – 2025 Location: Kenya
Leading comprehensive study targeting reduction of distribution losses from 23% to 18% by FY2028:
- Developing and validating DIgSILENT PowerFactory models for KPLC’s distribution network
- Performing feeder-level analysis (11 kV, 33 kV, 66 kV networks) and energy balance analysis
- Designing network reconfiguration and infrastructure upgrade strategies
- Delivering technical training workshops to KPLC engineers (August 2025)
4. Tajikistan Energy Loss Reduction Project (Task 10)
Client: STB Tajikistan, World Bank Period: 2023 – 2025 Location: Tajikistan
Leading distribution network analysis for overloaded MV/LV transformer identification and network optimization:
- Detailed PowerFactory modeling of MV and LV distribution networks
- Regional analysis identifying major contributors to distribution losses
- Investment planning with tender specifications and return-on-investment analysis
- Regular coordination with World Bank project management team
Past Research & Academic Projects (2020–2024)
The following projects were conducted during tenure as Associate Professor and Director of the Sino-Pak Center for Artificial Intelligence at Pak-Austria Fachhochschule (2020–2024).
Federated Learning for Power System Optimization Using federated learning to exchange flexibility in the power grid while maintaining privacy of individual models.
Decentralized AI on Edge IoT for Illegal Wood Cutting Detection Tiny ML-based audio detection system deployed on low-power microcontrollers communicating over LoRa WAN to identify illegal wood cutting activity in forests.
HVAC Predictive Maintenance Collaboration with National Centre for Physics, Pakistan, to model air processor faults and implement predictive maintenance algorithms using sensor data.
MLOps Platform Engineering Deployed MLOps platform on Kubernetes cluster providing end-to-end development solutions (1,200 GPU cores, 3.7 TiB RAM, 600 GB GPU RAM).
Proxmox-Based Hypervisor for HPC Deployed HPC platform with 2,352 CPUs, 5.37 TiB RAM, 700 TiB disk space for data lake applications.
